An entryway directly off the garage takes the brunt of daily family foot traffic. For this client, the existing narrow hallway contained an old DIY built-in that simply could not keep up with a busy household with children. The family needed a dedicated, highly functional drop zone to handle shoes, backpacks, coats, and school paperwork without choking off the walkway. Designing for a tight hallway requires exact proportions.

The Firehouse team created a sleek mudroom unit featuring an antique white finish paired with ginger woodgrain accents, framed by raised panel doors and drawers and finished with customer-supplied polished brass hardware. To give the space a high-end architectural feel, we integrated arched vertical details alongside a classic beadboard backing. Functionally, the unit provides a seating bench built at the perfect height for both kids and adults to take off shoes.

Below the bench, concealed drawers keep footwear out of sight, while upper cabinets and open hooks organize bags, jackets, and daily odds and ends. What started as a cramped, chaotic entryway is now a seamless, Pinterest-worthy transition space for the entire family.
